CAMPING is FUN!
Hampton Park Scout Troop goes camping at least once a term. Camps usually cost between $25-$80 depending on the activities and duration of the camps. We provide all the tents, cooking equipment, food and various other equipment as required. All activities are supervised and safety is always a priority. Parents are usually asked to assist with transport.
We generally camp in winter so it is important that your personal gear is weather appropriate. We suggest that as most things are easily available from a variety of stores, the most important article is the winter sleeping bag. Zero degrees or minus zero are the most suitable and worth the cost - a cold scout is a miserable scout!
Below is a suggested list for every scout to have ready for most camps:
- Sleeping bag (weather appropriate)
- Blanket (2 in winter please)
- Air-mattress or bed roll (remember the pump)
- Pillow
- Clothing (no singlet tops please)
- Spare shoes (enclosed shoes for canoeing)
- Hats / Beanie / raincoat
- Toiletries
- Towel (2 if we're swimming)
- Plastic bags (for wet stuff)
- Sunscreen
- Water Bottle
- Dilly bag (Plate, bowl, cup, cutlery, tea towel, chux)
- Torch & spare batteries
EVERYTHING MUST HAVE YOUR NAME CLEARLY MARKED INCLUDING YOUR BAGS
Bags: Try not to bring too much stuff and make sure you can actually carry it! And remember, Scouts pack their own bags themselves and are responsible for their own things at all times.
Lollies/ soft drinks: can't be individually wrapped and only bring what you can hold in two cupped hands. No chewing gum and please do not bring soft drinks or energy drinks.
Medications: Please let leaders know what you're bringing and make sure your form has been filled in by your parents. Leave your medication with your leaders.
Pocket knives: you can bring one but if you misuse it, it will be confiscated.
DO NOT BRING: Mobile phones, electronics games, radios, MP3 players, money, nail polish, chewing gum. Don't bring anything that you can't afford to loose or break. You're welcome to bring a camera at your own risk.
Please note: winter camps are really, really cold - you MUST bring enough warm bedding and clothing to cope.
We don't bring spare gear so it's really important that all scouts are well prepared.
