How To Join
Just Looking
We encourage your child to visit for 5 or 6 weeks to ensure that they are comfortable with the section, the leaders and other members and vice versa before you outlay any fees or purchase a uniform. All we ask is that on your child’s first visit a ‘Youth Membership’ M1 form is completed by a parent or guardian.
What Does It Cost?
The group charges Group fee for all youth members (invoiced each term). Part of this is paid to the Scout Association for membership and personal liability insurance, with the balance covering section costs (such as badges, craft supplies and some activities) and group costs (such as water, electricity, hall maintenance and leaders fees and training). Annual group fees are detailed on the fees list. Camps and some activities are not covered by this fee and will be charged as required.
The Uniform
Once your child has completed 4-6 visits and decided they would like to join, your leader will chat to you about the purchase of a uniform. The uniform is available from the Scout Shop, 581 Murray Street, West Perth. See the Scout Shop Website for opening hours. The uniform is a button-up shirt with a different colour sleeves for each section. Joeys have tan sleeves; Cub Scouts, yellow sleeves; Scouts, green; and Venturers, maroon sleeves. The shirt is worn with dark blue pants or shorts. The uniform top costs about $40 and you also need to buy a woggle. Scout uniform hats are encouraged but optional. Your child must wear closed in shoes to every meeting. Some second hand uniforms are available, just ask. Hampton Park Scout group also has a Group activity T-shirt and a unique scarf which will be supplied by your child’s section leader. (The costs of these are included in your initial fees invoice). The Group t-shirt allows your child to attend certain activities in a less formal dress and is handy when large district & state events are held as they are easy to recognise.
Registration and Investiture
Once you have purchased your uniform, a date will be set for investiture. The new member will need to know the Law and Promise and their meanings. Families are encouraged to attend investiture as it is a special occasion.
